Practice: The Nature Connection: Finding Inner Peace Through Outdoor Meditation

Lizzy Sutton & Nikki Sucevic Season 1 Episode 62

Reconnect with the earth beneath your feet and the divinity within through our guided walking meditation practice. When was the last time you truly felt present in your body and connected to the natural world around you? This transformative experience invites you to step outside, breathe deeply, and rediscover the profound healing that comes from mindful movement in nature.

Our walking meditation begins by establishing a physical connection with the earth, feeling each step as an anchor to the present moment. This practice serves as a powerful antidote to the disconnection many of us feel in our technology-saturated lives. By deliberately engaging with natural elements during your walk, you activate your body's innate response to nature's healing rhythms. The simple act of walking with awareness becomes a moving meditation that grounds you in the present while cultivating profound gratitude for this human experience and the beauty that surrounds us.

Whether you're new to meditation or a seasoned practitioner seeking fresh perspective, this accessible practice requires no special equipment – just you, your breath, and a willingness to be present. Take this time to disconnect from screens, silence notifications, and give yourself the gift of undistracted presence in nature. Your mind, body and spirit will thank you.

How might ten minutes of mindful walking transform your day? Try our guided practice and discover for yourself the profound shift that happens when you walk with intention.

Speaker 2:

This is an outdoor, walking-based meditation, so, if you currently are not outside, take your time and make your way outdoors to fully immerse yourself into this mindfulness, nature-based practice. Once you arrive outside, start by standing still for a moment. Feel the earth beneath your feet, take a deep breath in and, as you exhale, let go of any tensions or distractions. Lower your shoulders down your back, release any tension in your face and begin to walk. As you begin to walk, bring your full attention to your steps. Notice the sensation of your feet connecting with the ground. Feel the shift of your weight from side to side as you move. Is your foot light, heavy, balanced? Walk at a comfortable pace, allowing your steps to be gentle. Notice the rhythm of your breath. Inhale deeply through your nose and, as you exhale, feel your body relax more deeply into the rhythm of you walking. Let your breath guide your movement, slow and steady, in sync with your steps. Now bring your awareness to the sounds around you. Maybe you hear the rustling of the leaves, the chirping of birds or the wind gently flowing through the trees. Let these sounds be a backdrop to your walking, allowing them to help you stay present With each step. Notice the sensations of the environment, the warmth or coolness of the air, the texture of the earth under your feet, whether it's grass or gravel, dirt or sand. Feel the connection to the earth with each step you take. Imagine yourself grounded and rooted in the present moment. If your mind starts to wander, gently bring your focus back to your breath and the sensation of walking. The way you feel your body move from side to side, how your shoulders raise and lower. Each step is an anchor, a reminder to stay here in this moment, with nature.

Speaker 2:

Continue walking for a bit, feeling the surface beneath you and really enjoying the beauty that's around you. Feeling how your body moves through walking, feeling and noticing your breath, the sensations you feel on your skin and the sounds you hear all around you. Perhaps you notice the play of light through the trees, the colors of the flowers. Maybe you pick up the purple, the red or the texture of the bark on a nearby tree. Take a moment to appreciate the gifts of nature, knowing that each small detail is a part of the whole and is a beautiful manifestation of this earth that we live in, that we live in.

Speaker 2:

Take your time to fully absorb, looking around at the beauty around you and have gratitude for this time that we have here on earth, the color of the sky, the color of the ground, the wind, everything that comes around and in our sphere we have is such a gift, a gift for us here on planet earth.

Speaker 2:

So have gratitude for this incarnation in this human body being here on earth, feeling and realizing and being surrounded and supported by nature, the healing you're receiving from the trees as you walk, the cleansing you are receiving from the wind, the healing frequencies from the birds and the beauty for your vision and what you see, giving you peace, this beautiful disconnection from anything else, just having time with you, your mind-body-soul connection, and allowing nature to truly and fully support you. Continue this walk for as long as you'd like. You can walk for the length of this meditation with the music playing, for the length of this meditation with the music playing, or you can extend your walk and fully listen and absorb all of the senses that you feel while you're out in nature. Take the time you deserve, the time just for you to truly enjoy, with no distractions, no texts, no emails, no phone calls. It's just you and nature. Allow nature to speak to you, to heal you, to support you. Take your time here to fully enjoy the magnitude of this beautiful world that we live in.

Speaker 2:

Thank, you continue this meditative state, this walking meditation, for as long as you'd like. If you'd like to close the meditation, begin to slow your steps and take a deep breath. In as you exhale, feel that deep sense of gratitude for this moment, this connection and this walk how you are truly supported in the beauty that is all around you.
